Krystian Doss, a 6th grader at Good Hope Middle School, has achieved his goal: winning the 2009 Cullman County Spelling Bee. He will represent Cullman County at the state level in Birmingham on March 7, 2009. The championship word “yieldable” was spelled correctly by Krystian in the 8th and final round. Last year, Krystian was the runner-up of the county spelling bee.
Dee Dee Smith, a 7th grader at Fairview Middle School, was the runner-up in this year’s Spelling Bee competition. Dee Dee was eliminated from the contest with “langosta,” a South or Central American spiny lobster.
Chloe Weidman from West Point Middle placed third, and Eric Stewart from Hanceville Elementary placed fourth.
The 2009 Cullman County Spelling Bee was held on January 26, 2009, at Fairview High School.
