Precision Machining Technology

This program provides hands-on experience as well as classroom instruction in all aspects of basic machining. Courses include blueprint reading, bench work, layout engine lathes, and milling machines. Hands-on projects are used to build actual tools and machines which can be used in the shop by students. Live work is done by the students for the general public and local industry. A co-op program is available for qualified advanced students.

  • First year curriculum: Safety, blueprint reading, engine lathe, precision measurement, bench work, precision layout and use of hand tools.

  • Second year curriculum: Safety, blueprint reading and design, inspection, horizontal and vertical milling machines, machine maintenance, surface grinder and machine assembly.

Students also have an opportunity to participate in written and skill tests at Wallace State Community College. Depending on the student's knowledge and skills the student could earn up to 12 hours of college credit in Precision Machining Technology at Wallace.
