News from the Reading Teacher

Mrs. Penn

MARCH 1ST—March 31st

THIS YEAR’S MOTTO:  “FINISH STRONG”

This year we have added a new class called “Discovery”.  Spelling will be taught in this class, along with writing, character education, and other instructional activities.  The Spelling test will be given each Friday.  Your child will be given a list of those words and the words will also be on the fifth grade newsletter.

Check your child’s planner for story test dates, fluency sheet dates, and any other homework assignments. The fluency sheets are assigned on Monday and are due on the following Friday.

Students will be given a study guide for each new story read in the textbook.  The students should read the story at home, complete the study guide and study the vocabulary words.  The class will read the story in class and review the study guide.  Hopefully by reading the story and researching the questions, your child will do well on the story tests.

Students’ AR goals have been assigned.  The deadline is March 10th.  Each student has their own individual goal and should have it on a label in their reading folder.  The students will also be required to do a short book outline this 9 weeks.  The deadline is the same as AR points.

Weekly sheets/SAT/ARMT review :  The students will not have a sheet the weeks of testing.
