Pledge of Allegiance

  Character education thought for the day is a quote by George Washington:  I hope I shall possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain, what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an “honest man.”  Your honesty influences others to be honest.

             Students

Students, you should have your excuses for being absent turned in to Mrs. Smith no later that three days after being absent.

Any student whose parents are members of the PTO will be given a chance to win a slightly used car/ truck in a drawing at the end of the year.  Students who maintain an A/B average will be entered once.  All “A” students are entered twice.  Urge your parents to join so you may be eligible.

Prom Committee will meet today during 4th period in Ms. Crook’s room. Please excuse all members and allow them to make up any missed work. A list of committee members was sent earlier this week.

 The 10th graders will be attending the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce Career Fair today between 12:30-2:30 at Wallace State Community College.  All 10th graders will meet in the auditorium TODAY 3rd period to review the procedures for the fair.

Anne Andrews Honorary Scholarship applications are available from Mrs. Evans.  Application deadline is April 23.

Congratulations to the band for earning a Superior rating at the State Music Performance Assessment at UNA yesterday.

Fairview High School will sponsor a gold sale on April 1st in the auditorium from 2:00 -6:00 pm.  Bring your gold jewelry and old coins to exchange for cash. 

The Sally Moore Scholarship is available for one student in Cullman County who has demonstrated leadership abilities and knowledge in the field of technology.  Applications can be picked up in the guidance office.  DEADLINE:  April 9, 2010.

Prom tickets will be on sale Wednesday through Friday. Seniors see Mrs. Skelley, Juniors see Ms. Crook. 

Seniors, please check out new scholarship opportunities.  Information in the guidance office.

 Seniors: Take pictures to Mrs. Fetters for the Senior DVD. The cost will be $5.

Students, please remember to use the steps and the crosswalk when coming from the gravel parking lot.

 The Miss Cullman County Pageant is Saturday, May 1, 2010.  Registration forms may be picked up in room 223.

All High School students, when arriving to school, may go to an individual teacher’s classroom, high school hallways or the snack bar.  NO students will be allowed to hang around outside the buildings in the mornings before school.

 

Clubs & Organization

 

The Key Club is selling balloons for Children's Hospital.  Balloons are $1.00 and may be purchased from a Key Club member or Mrs. Cook.  Please help us to reach our goal of $200.00.

Any student interested in running for Student Council Officer or Class Officer needs to pick up an application from Mrs. Fetters.

Explorers will meet today 3rd period in the auditorium.

The National Honor Society will meet on Thursday morning at 7:30 in the auditorium.  Make-up meeting will be Thursday evening at 3 or Friday morning at 7:30 in Mrs. Bailey’s room.

 Explorers will meet Thursday, 3rd period.  Please do not count these students absent and allow them to make-up their work.  We are making arrangements for the Alumni activities later in the school year.

 Key Club members should turn in balloon money by March 23.

There will be a county-wide FCCLA skating party at the Vinemont Skate Center on March 25, 2010.  The cost is $15 and includes a t-shirt, pizza, and skate rental.  Please see Mrs. Haynes this week to sign up

The annual Key Club sponsored Blood Drive will be Friday, March 19th from 9:00 am to 2:00   pm in room 160.  Please see Mrs. Cook to sign up to give blood. Students: you may only sign up to give during a free class period.  You may not get out of a core class to give blood.

The National Honor Society will be tutoring Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 3-4.  They will also offer in-school tutoring when possible.  Please see Mrs. Bailey for more information or to sign up to be tutored.

Sports 

The Quarterback Club will be hosting a golf tournament at Chelsea Oaks on March 20th.

Anyone wishing to renew their reserved stadium seats, or order a reserved seat has until April 1st to do so.  Please call Shane Bailey at 347-4006.

Please excuse the Varsity Golf team on Monday to compete in the Hanceville Invitational Golf Tournament. 

The Fairview Track & Field team will be hosting their first home meet of the season this Thursday, March 18.  Please come out and support our Track team.  We are hosting Holly Pond, Vinemont, and Arab.

The Track Team will sponsor a donkey basketball game on March 19th at 7:00 pm.  Tickets are$5 for adult and $3 for children. Tickets are available in the office.

University of Alabama’s Rural Health Scholars Program applications are available in the guidance office.  This program is offered to 25 students in the state, currently in the 11th grade who plan to pursue a degree in the medical field.  Applications should be postmarked by March 15, 2010. 

 

Scholarship auditions for Snead State Jazz Band will be held March 11-13, 2010.  Contact: michael.mcgee@adjunct.snead.edu or 256-840-4148.  Singers should contact renee.peirce@adjunct.snead.edu or 256-738-7207.  Piano should contact mbrooks@snead.edu or 256-840-4145. If you are a member of the Explorer’s Club and a senior, you are eligible to apply for a $500 scholarship.  You may pick up the application in the guidance office.  DEADLINE:  April 2, 2010.

The Simcoe Masonic Lodge is offering a scholarship to a senior from Fairview, Holly Pond, or Brewer High School.  You may pick up an application from the guidance office.  DEADLINE:  April 20, 2010.

ATTENTION 10th GRADERS:  The Cullman County Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership applications are available in the guidance office.  2 students from our school will be chosen based on academic achievement, leadership/school service, and letters of recommendation.  You should ONLY apply if you have an overall 90 average.

The Cullman County Farmers Federation is offering a $500 scholarship to a Wallace State freshman and a$1000 scholarship to a 4-year university freshman majoring in a field of Agriculture or Agricultural Education.  Applications can be picked up in the guidance office.  DEADLINE:  March 1, 2010.

The Stonewall Jackson Memorial Fund offers repayable, no-interest loans for high school seniors based upon the submission of an essay on a topic or issue that relates to the life of Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson.  DEADLINE:  April 1, 2010.

The Cullman Electric Cooperative is offering a $1000 scholarship to a FAIRVIEW senior.  Students will be awarded points based on GPA, School Activities/Awards, Essay and Recommendation letters. Applications can be picked up in the guidance office.  DEADLINE:  March 12, 2010. 

The Electric Cooperative Foundation offers a $1000 scholarship to a student at-large based solely on merit.  Applications can be picked up in the guidance office.  DEADLINE: March 12, 2010.    

The Cullman County Soil & Water Conservation District Auxiliary is offering a $500 scholarship to a student who plans to attend Wallace State Community College, and major in the field of agriculture, forestry, wildlife, or an environmentally related subject.  Students should be active in student affairs and/or show leadership abilities with reasonable financial need.  Applications can be picked up in the guidance office.  DEADLINE: March 31, 2010.                         

The Workers’ compensation Section of the Alabama State Bar is offering a scholarship to students who have had a parent to die or be disabled due to an on-the-job accident.  You can apply online at: www.ALFINC.org  DEADLINE: May 1, 2010.

The Auburn Montgomery School of Business is asking seniors to participate in the Standard of Excellence Tournament.  All participants with a minimum 23 ACT and 3.4 GPA are guaranteed a $1000 scholarship to Auburn/Montgomery.  The competition will consist of a one-hundred question test covering various aspects of business. The competition will be held on January 29, 2010.
