The Library Media Program of Vinemont Elementary supports the Kindergarten through 5th Grade school curricula, based on the Alabama Course of Study.  Our program fosters the development of skills and strategies that enable students, staff, and community members to become lifelong learners. The objectives of the Vinemont Elementary Library Media Program are designed to:

• Provide the services and resources necessary to meet the needs of students and staff
• Prepare students to become effective users of ideas and information
• Encourage the development of critical thinking and independent learning
• Challenge students to reach for their full academic and personal potential
• Promote the love of reading and the appreciation of literature

The Vinemont Elementary Library Media Center is a very busy place!
In addition to their regularly scheduled library visits,
students come in often to research class projects, read magazines,  and to
choose books.  Our doors are always open.

Visiting:
Students visit the library with their class at assigned times during the week. They may also visit the library anytime during school hours with permission from their teacher.

Materials:
The Library Media Center contains a diverse collection of over 10,000 books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, videos, audio books, and computer software for loan to students and staff.  Non-fiction and reference materials cover the curricular areas of the school as well as items aimed towards students' personal interests. The fiction collection provides students with a wide array of classic and popular literature, including high interest/low reading level collections.  Pleasure reading materials such as series titles, graphic novels [comics], and magazines of interest to elementary school students are also a large part of the collection.  The Library's 20 computers provide students with the technology to enhance their academic pursuits and access to information outside the school walls.  Students have access to the Alabama Virtual Library, Accelerated Reader, Library Card Catalog, QUIA (math program), and many educational websites that have been reviewed by the Media Specialist.  5th grade students have access to the Gaggle Network for safe e-mail and blogging projects.

Borrowing:
