The
Writing to Read (WTR) Computer lab serves Kindergarten and First Grade students.
Individual classrooms spend about 45 minutes in the
lab.
During that time children are engaged in 15 minute
rotations of skill building computer games, typing, and working in small groups
or individually progress monitoring with his or her classroom teacher.
Children
are encouraged to use invented spellings as they type. Research shows this
technique helps beginning readers and writers develop the necessary skills for
reading success. Hence, the name Writing to Read. Teachers take advantage of the
individualized instruction time and students thoroughly enjoy using the
computers.
