The Write to Read Lab was begun at WPE in 1998. Funds to purchase nine of the computers and to fund the teaching unit were provided by the Federal Government under Title I funds. The additional eleven computers were added as local funding became available.
Students in first grade, during the first semester of school, visit the lab four days per week for forty-five minutes each visit. The Kindergarten students come one day per week for the same amount of time. During the second semester the plan is reversed. Kindergarten will then attend four days per week and first grade will attend only once.
The children really enjoy learning to read and write with the computer's help!
