All West Point Elementary students have a minimum of thirty minutes in computer lab at least once per week.

Kindergarten and first grade go to the Write to Read Lab with Mrs. Brewer.  While there they work on writing skills as well as phonics.  They have a variety of software to use, including Reader Rabbit, Chick-a-Boom-Boom, Franklin's Reading, Franklin's Math, Word Munchers, and the Ultimate Writing and Creativity Program.

Grades 2 through 5 go to the Computer Lab with Mrs. South.  They work on an assortment of skills using learning based programs such as Magic Schoolbus, Kid's College, Geosafari Geography/Animals, Math Blaster, Schoolhouse Rock as well as many others.  Grades 4 and 5 spend several lessons learning keyboarding skills, Internet use, and learning Microsoft Word program.

The lab is also used for research whenever students need information on a specific topic for classroom use.

Three times per year, students take the STAR reading test which gives us a target reading level range for each student.  This information is then used to help the students choose the correct level books to read for our Accelerated Reader program.  The lab is also available each day for students to take AR tests when needed.
