1. Kindergarten students will have a weekly scheduled storytime. These storytimes will involve learning to listen quietly to a story, learning library citizenship rules, learning to take care of library materials, recalling simple details from a story, etc. Kindergarten students will begin checking out books during the second semester.
2. The loan period for books is 10 school days.
3. There will be a grace period of 3 days on overdue books. This means you have 3 days after the due date to return your books without paying a fine. For example, if your book is due on Monday, October 1, and you don't return the book until Thursday, October 4, you will not owe a fine. If you wait until Friday, Oct. 5, you will owe a $.05 fine on each book for each day that the book is overdue. So, if you have one book checked out and it is due on Monday, Oct. 1 and you wait until Friday, Oct. 5 to return the book, you will owe a $.20 fine on that book. Fines are charged to help teach responsibility. Fine money is used to purchase library supplies. Fines are not charged for weekends or holidays. If a student is sick and not at school on the day that their book/books are due, they need to return the books the first day that they are back at school. Fines will not be charged for days that a student is out sick. The library staff may not know a child has been sick unless they are told. Students will not be allowed to check-out books when they owe fines or have overdue books.
4. Kindergarten and first grade students are allowed to have out 1 book at a time. They may come to the library as often as they need to check-in their book and get another book.
5. Students in grades 2-5 may have out 3 books at a time. They may return books and get more as often as they would like.
6. A student may check-out a reference book in order to finish an assignment. Reference books may be checked out only overnight. They must be returned before school the following morning. Fines of $1.00 an hour per book will be charged on reference books. Due to the high cost of reference materials, a printed article from a CD-ROM database will be provided rather than checking out the encyclopedia volume, etc. if possible.
