School Arrival/Dismissal

School dismisses at 3:00 P.M.  We ask that all parents wait outside the building until the teachers bring the children out at 3:00.  Please make all plans for your children before school each morning, this will limit classroom interruptions.  Students are allowed to use the telephone only in emergencies.  

All students must be picked up and dropped off in the parking lot in front of the school.  Please do not use the driveway directly in front of the school, this is for bus use only.  Do not drive to the rear of the building to drop off or pick up students.

If you leave your car unattended, please park in a visitor's parking space located near the front of the parking lot.  This will prevent others from being blocked in.

Visitation

All parents, guardians or other visitors must report to the office.  We must know who is visiting our campus in order to provide a safe environment for our students.

Parent Conferences

Parent conferences may be scheduled through the principal in order to choose a time suitable to both parent and teacher.  Please contact the secretary at 256-775-6178 to set up your conference.

Messages

Should you have to get a message to your child, please call the office no later than 2:00 P.M.  Messages received after this time may not reach your child due to afternoon activities.

Attendance  

Any student in grades K through five who misses school for sixteen days in any school year will not be given credit for that year and may be retained.  All unexcused absences after the second will be reported to Juvenile Services.

Any student who misses one or more days for any reason must, upon returning to school, present their teacher a note from their parent or guardian containing their full name, date and nature of the absence.  Failure to do so will result in an unexcused absence.

Any student arriving after the 8:00 A.M. bell will be considered tardy and will be sent to the office for a tardy slip.  Should you arrive late please accompany your child to the office or send a handwritten excuse.  Continual tardiness will be reported to Juvenile Services.  Three unexcused tardies are equal to 1 unexcused absence, and count toward attendance.

All early checkouts will be handled through the office.  Students will be called to the office to check out.  Early checkouts will be counted just as tardies.  Please try to arrange all appointments after school.

Promotion/Retention of Students

(These guidelines are set by the Cullman County Board)

A student in grades K-5 shall be promoted from one grade level to the next higher grade level at the end of the scholastic year when it is considered the student has satisfactorily demonstrated the skills necessary to function successfully in the next grade and is in compliance with the Cullman County Schools Attendance Policy.

Kindergarten:  The decision as to whether to promote a kindergarten student to Grade 1 shall rest solely with the student's kindergarten teacher and school principal.  Such decision shall be final.

Grades 1-3:  Students must consistently maintain a score of 70% in the levels required for each grade in the current reading program adopted by Cullman County Schools.  Report card grades will be determined by daily classroom performance with a skill mastery level of 70% on test scores. Students scoring below 70% in reading, language, or math are considered to be below average.  Students consistently scoring 0-69 will be considered for retention.

Grades 4-5:  Students must pass more than one-half of the academic subjects of reading, language, spelling, mathematics, science, and social studies.  Two of the subjects passed must be reading and math.

Dress Code

(The following guidelines are those adopted by the Cullman County Board of Education)

Students and employees are required to appear at school clothed and groomed in a manner that will help provide an atmosphere conducive to learning and that will promote proper behavior.  Any article of clothing or manner of style determined by teachers or principals to be disruptive to the learning environment or to be hazardous to the health and safety of the students or to the teachers shall not be worn.
