Bailey Boland, daughter of the legendary basketball coach Tammy West, will be returning home. Tammy West built a girls' program at Cold Springs High School that exemplified excellence. West’s career at Cold Springs spanned three decades. During that time, she led the Lady Eagles to 4 state titles, 8 state tournament appearances, 25 area championships, 7 county championships, and hundreds of wins. During West’s tenure as a coach and teacher at Cold Springs, she gave birth to three daughters, enrolled them in Cold Springs School, taught them in 6th-grade math, and then coached each one. West’s daughters all grew up and became coaches themselves. Their mother’s love for basketball became their own love, as well.
Bailey Boland, West’s middle daughter, grew up in the Jesse George Gymnasium. It was her home away from home for many years. Boland was her mom’s manager as a child, and then she had the honor of playing for her mother as a teen. Now, she is going to step back onto the court as the head coach of the Lady Eagles. Boland says, “There is no greater joy for me as a coach than to be able to follow in my mother’s footsteps in the gymnasium where she coached for 33 years.”
Bailey Boland’s goal is to build on what her mother started and continue to lead the Lady Eagles to victory. Boland began her coaching career at Addison 5 years ago. The Lady Bulldogs made it to sub-regional play 4 times and won 2 county titles under Boland’s direction. Boland spent her most recent season as the head coach at Falkville. They also made it to the sub-region.
Boland is excited to begin working with the athletes at her alma mater. Boland loves the school and the community of Cold Springs, and she cannot wait to return home.
