Cullman County Schools mourns the death of Gene Sullins, a former Cullman County Board of Education member who served three terms representing the West Point and Harmony communities. Sullins chose not to seek re-election in 2024, concluding his board service after years of commitment to the school system and the families it serves. His role gave him an opportunity to advocate for students, support employees and represent the needs of his community.
Cullman County Schools Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette offered the following tribute:
“Gene loved Cullman County Schools, and he cared deeply about our students and staff. He understood that serving on the school board meant serving people, and he gave his time and energy to helping our schools succeed. We are grateful for his three terms of service and for the commitment he showed to West Point, Harmony and our entire school system. On behalf of Cullman County Schools, I want to thank Gene for all he did for our school family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Cullman County Schools extends its deepest condolences to the Sullins family.
